    What is the 4B movement?

I saw 4B movement was trending on the internet and I was curious to know about it. I gathered some information about it and thought I would share here and there might be people who do not know about 4B movement, so this thread post might be helpful.

The 4B movement in South Korea is a feminist movement that encourages women to resist traditional societal pressures by rejecting marriage, childbirth, dating, and heterosexual relationships.

Emerging around 2019, the movement’s name represents four “no’s”: Bihon (no marriage), Bichulsan (no childbirth), Biyeonae (no dating), and Bisekseu (no heterosexual sex). Adherents see these actions as ways to oppose entrenched patriarchy and challenge societal expectations around women’s roles, especially in a culture where women often face gender inequity and traditional family pressures.

In South Korea, gender disparities in career opportunities and significant expectations around marriage and family life contribute to many women feeling that traditional paths limit their autonomy. Supporters of 4B believe rejecting these norms allows them to pursue their lives independently.

The movement has sparked debate, particularly given South Korea’s low birth rate, as government policies encourage marriage and family life to boost population growth, which stands at one of the lowest fertility rates globally
